The term “marine aquaculture” describes cultivating marine organisms under controlled conditions. For this purpose, predominantly fish, crustaceans and plants are cultivated for the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and fodder industries in different production systems. The objective of the GMA is to supervise and support the development process for the breeding of fresh-water and saltwater fish by means of applied research. To this end, a research facility was constructed in Büsum in 2009, which was equipped according to the latest scientific and technical standards. The marine organisms are held in closed circuit facilities. The seawater used for this purpose is continuously cleaned using technical equipment, so that the water consumption is extremely low.
